Troubleshooting and Repair

This troubleshooting guide is meant as a reference only. Your motor problem may be unique. Most motor problems are simple and most motors can be repaired.

PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE POSSIBLE SOLUTION
MOTOR DOES NOT RUN AT ALL BUT BATTERY IS KNOWN TO BE GOOD POWER NOT GETTING TO MOTOR
DUE TO BAD SWITCH
OR SHORT IN THE CORD
CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS FIRST!

IF ALL CONNECTIONS ARE GOOD, THEN BY-PASS THE SWITCH AND WIRE THE HEAD DIRECTLY TO THE BATTERY - IF IT RUNS, THEN THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE SWITCH. IF IT DOES NOT RUN, THEN THERE IS A BREAK IN THE WIRE OR A MOTOR SHORT
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE POSSIBLE SOLUTION
MOTOR RUNS VERY HOT

AND/OR

DRAINS BATTERY QUICKLY

WATER INSIDE MOTOR

MOTOR PARTS OVERHEATED

BAD CONNECTIONS

CHECK ALL CONNECTIONS FIRST!

THEN CONTACT HAMMERHEAD FOR SERVICE AND/OR SEND MOTOR/CORD ASSEMBLY TO HAMMERHEAD (See below)
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE POSSIBLE SOLUTION
VACUUM STARTS OUT STRONG BUT WEAKENS DURING VACUUMING AND THE NEXT DAY IT DOES THE SAME THING BATTERY PROBLEMS:

BATTERY WATER IS LOW OR BATTERY IS OLD

BATTERY CONNECTIONS ARE POOR OR CORRODED

BATTERY NOT GETTING FULL CHARGE
CHECK CHARGER
(Charge at 10amp setting)

REPLACE BATTERY
(Charge new batteries before first use)
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE POSSIBLE SOLUTION
SLUGGISH OVERALL MOTOR PERFORMANCE EXCESSIVE DEBRIS UNDER PROP (How do I do this? Click here)

BRUSHES WORN OUT

BAD WIRING CONNECTIONS

BATTERY PROBLEM
REMOVE PROP AND CLEAN DEBRIS OFF SHAFT

CHECK ALL ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS FOR HEAT
HEAT INDICATES POWER LOSS, WHICH SHORTENS BATTERY LIFE

CONTACT HAMMERHEAD FOR SERVICE AND/OR SEND MOTOR/CORD ASSEMBLY TO HAMMERHEAD (See below)

It will give you detailed instructions as to how and where to send your motor in for service. A completed form included with your motor will speed up the repair process.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to upgrades in our motor size and power, some parts are no longer available for older motors and because of this we cannot repair all motors sent in to us. Please see the image below. You must measure your motor as shown in the photo before sending it in for repair. If your motor measures smaller than the dimension shown, parts are no longer available, and it should be replaced. See the parts page for replacement options.
